Emails pull in details like names, dates and answers using placeholders called data fields. If a detail is missing, or the whole email looks empty, check the causes below in order.
The whole email, or a whole section, is blank
- The registrant has no attendee type. Content that's shown by a display rule based on attendee type won't appear for someone without one. Open the registration, assign the right attendee type, then send the email again. To find out why it was missing, see Why doesn't a registrant have the right attendee type?.
- The display rule doesn't match this registrant. See Why isn't my display rule or content block showing in an email?.
One data field is blank
- The registrant is marked as Test in a live event. Data fields don't fill in for test registrations. Go to Manage > Registrations, open the registration, select Profile, and check Properties in the Registration Information section.
- The registrant never answered that question, so there's nothing to show.
- You used a Custom Event Data field. These are filled in by the event builder under Plan > Event Setup > Details, not by registrants, and they don't read the form's close date. For dates, use a field like Event Start Date or Event End Date, or type the date into the email.
Links from data fields are the wrong color in Gmail
Gmail ignores styles set at the top of an email. Put the color directly on each link instead. See Tips for email templates that look right in Gmail and Outlook.
Before you send
Send a test to a live (not test) registration that has the same attendee type and answers as the people you're emailing. That shows you what they'll actually see.
Next step: Still missing? Contact Support with the event code, the email template name and a registration code that shows the problem.
