Gender works like a custom profile question, in that the answer subset can be customized.
Note: Changes made to the gender label are stored at the event level. This means that, unlike other custom questions, changes made in one form are not independent of changes made in other forms.
Answers Available to this Form
By default, the last check box is un-checked and the Answer Label text field is disabled. When the check box is selected, the Answer Label field becomes enabled and the user can change the Label for the "Unknown" option. If this check box is selected, the Unknown option also displays on the form as an answer option.
The Answer Label appears on both the form and the confirmation page/email. The Answer Code is fixed ([Blank], Male, Female, Unknown) and cannot be changed. The user can customize the answer labels for "blank" (Null), "Male", and "Female". The standard labels (i.e. those returned in reports results, are [blank], Male, Female, and Unknown.
The answer codes cannot be changed—these fields are read-only.
To prevent an answer option from displaying, clear the check box in the Show answer on this form? column.
Click Submit or Submit and Close to save your changes.
Best Practices for the use of the "Unknown" option for gender:
The "Unknown" option is designed for use on Forms when a primary registrant is registering another attendee whose gender they do not know. For example, a human resource manager may be registering a list of new employees for orientation training, and they cannot tell from the employee names what their gender is. Planners should not show this field on Forms when people will register themselves (since registrants know their own gender).
