An import adds new records unless it can match each row to one that already exists. Here's how to update records without creating duplicates.
Update existing records
- Export the records you want to change from the event. Include the Profile Unique Id column, which Certain uses to match each row to an existing profile.
- Edit only the columns you need to change. Don't change or remove the Profile Unique Id.
- Import the file back into the same event. Go to Manage > Registrations > Import and choose Import/Update Registrations. See Registrations FAQ - Import Registration Data
- Check the results. See Checking Imported Registration Data
Changing statuses for many people
To mark many registrants as Attended or another status, use a mass action on the registration list instead of an import.
If an import created duplicates
Mark the extra registrations as Test so they drop out of counts and reports. You can mass-delete registrations, but profiles must be deleted one at a time.
File rules that trip people up
- Web addresses, such as LinkedIn URLs, must start with https://
- Avoid double spaces and special characters in file names.
- Save the file as Tab-Delimited Text or Excel/CSV, and close it in Excel before you upload it.
- If the event status is Testing, import 1,000 rows or fewer at a time.
Next step: Export first, then edit and re-import.
