Summary
An Account Administrator can create a new Certain platform user (an internal user such as an event planner, manager, or support person — not an event attendee/registrant). Each user is assigned a User Type, which determines what areas and actions they can access.
Prerequisites
- You must be logged in as a user with the Administrator User Type.
- You need the new user's name and email address (used as both Login ID and contact email).
Steps
1. Log in to the Certain platform
Start from the account Dashboard.
2. Click the User and Account Settings icon
It's in the top-right of the global nav bar. This opens a dropdown menu.
3. Select "Account Settings" from the dropdown
This opens the Account Settings overview page.
4. In the left sidebar, under Administration, click "Users"
This opens the User List.
5. Click "Add New"
This opens a blank User Profile / User Type and Access Permissions form.
6. Fill in the User Profile section
- Name — required
- LoginID (Email) — required; must be a valid, unique email address
- Phone — optional
- Email — recommendation: the same address used for Login ID
- Account — select the user's "home" account (the account or sub-account they'll log into)
- Restrict sub-accounts access? — check to limit which sub-accounts the user can navigate to
- Generate password and email to user — checked by default for new users; an auto-generated temporary password is emailed to the user on Save
7. Select a User Type and review its permission options
The User Type and Access Permissions section updates its checkboxes based on the type selected. Shown below: Administrator (default), with its Restrict Permissions checklist.
See the User Type Reference below for how this section changes per type.
8. (Administrator / Event Builder only) Optionally enable API Access
Checking API Access reveals a further Do not allow Admin side access option, which restricts the user to API-only use (no UI login).
9. Set Event Visibility
Choose:
- View all events (current account and sub-accounts) — default, or
- View only events for which User is assigned a role (Role-based User)
10. Save
Click Save (stays on the record) or Save & Close (returns to the User List).

- The list of selectable User Types is scoped to what's applicable to the current account (e.g., Reviewer only appears if a dependent module is enabled).
- An existing user record has a Delete button (not present when adding a new user):
