Overview
Kiosk Mode turns any Greet device into a locked-down, self-service check-in station. There are two modes: Event Check-In for event-wide arrivals with badge printing, and Session Check-In for tracking attendance into a specific session with capacity validation. Both lock the device behind an Exit PIN and run fully offline once the attendee cache is loaded.
This article covers setup, launch, running each mode, and exiting.
Navigate to Kiosk Mode
- In the left sidebar, click Dashboard & Events and select your event.
- From the event's Overview page, click Kiosk Mode in the left sidebar.
- The Kiosk Mode landing page shows two options: Event Check-In and Session Check-In. Choose the one that fits your use case.
Event Check-In Kiosk
Step 1: Select a Printer
- Click Event Check-In to open the setup wizard. The wizard has four steps: Select Event, Printer, Template, and Launch. The event is preselected.
- On the Printer step, click Select a Printer. The printer panel has four tabs:
- Cloud: cloud printers connected to your account, each showing an online or offline indicator.
- Local: USB or network printers configured directly on this device. If you see "No local printers configured," the device hasn't been paired yet. See the How to Set Up a Badge Printer in Greet guide.
- Zebra: for Zebra-brand badge printers.
- Browser Print: sends the job through the browser's native print dialog. Use this as a fallback when no other option fits.
- Click the printer you want this kiosk to use. The dialog closes and your selection appears on the Printer step.
- Click Refresh Cache to download the latest attendee data to this device. Once cached, the kiosk keeps checking attendees in even if venue Wi-Fi drops mid-event.
- Click Next.
Step 2: Select a Badge Template
- On the Template step, choose one of two options:
- Auto — Match by Attendee Type: Greet picks the right template based on each attendee's registration type. The card expands to show the full type-to-template mapping for this event.
- Specific template (e.g., Standard Event Badge or VIP Badge): every badge from this kiosk uses the same design, regardless of attendee type.
- Click Next.
Step 3: Configure Launch Settings
- On the Review & Launch step, confirm your printer and template, then configure the runtime settings:
- Fullscreen Mode: turn this on for any public-facing kiosk. Greet enters fullscreen on launch and hides browser chrome.
- Appearance: pick Light for bright rooms or Dark for dim venues. This setting is per-kiosk.
Step 4: Set the Exit PIN
- Scroll to the Exit PIN section. The PIN is required before you can launch. All kiosk devices on this event share the same PIN.
- If PIN is set is already showing, click the eye icon to reveal it.
- To set or change it, click Change PIN, enter a minimum 4-digit PIN in the New PIN field, then confirm it.
Important: settings can't be changed once the kiosk is active. The only way to adjust them is to exit and reconfigure. Make all changes before clicking Launch.
- Click Launch Kiosk Mode. The device locks into fullscreen kiosk mode.
Running the Event Check-In Kiosk
The welcome screen shows the event name, a live check-in counter, and a Start Check-In button. A green Online chip and a Cached chip in the bottom-right confirm the device's status.
- Attendees tap Start Check-In to reach the Find Your Registration screen. Two lookup options are available:
- Scan QR Code (default): opens the camera. The attendee aims the QR code from their confirmation email or badge at the viewfinder.
- Type Info: the attendee enters their name or email exactly as registered, then taps Search.
- If the search returns more than one match, the Verify Your Identity screen appears. The attendee enters the email address they registered with and taps Verify & Check In.
- On the confirmation screen, the attendee chooses:
- Print My Badge: sends the job to the configured printer.
- Skip (I have my badge): marks them as checked in without printing.
- After either action, the kiosk returns to the welcome screen for the next attendee.
Exiting the Event Check-In Kiosk
- Tap Exit Kiosk Mode on the welcome screen (or tap the Greet logo 5 times from anywhere in the kiosk).
- In the exit dialog, type the Exit PIN and click Unlock & Exit. The device returns to the Greet admin view.
Session Check-In Kiosk
Setup
- From the Kiosk Mode landing page, click Session Check-In.
- Tap the session you want this kiosk to monitor.
- On the launch screen, confirm the Exit PIN (the same event-wide PIN used for Event Check-In), then click Launch Session Kiosk.
Running the Session Kiosk
- The session welcome screen shows the session name, location, time, and a live attendance count. Choose a scan mode:
- Self Scan: uses the front camera. Attendees scan their own badge.
- Managed: uses the back camera. Staff scans attendee badges.
- Regardless of scan mode, two lookup methods are available:
- Scan QR Code: opens the camera viewfinder.
- Search by Name: enter the attendee's name or email, then tap Search.
- After a successful lookup, Greet checks the attendee into the session and updates the live count.
Tips
- Launch a few minutes before doors open and confirm the Cached chip is visible on the welcome screen. That's your signal the device is ready to work offline if needed.
- Printer selection is per-device. Each laptop, tablet, or kiosk in the room can point to its own printer.
- If a setting needs to change after launch, exit using the PIN, adjust, and relaunch.
