Overview
Settings is the per-event control panel that tells Greet how check-in should behave at this specific event. This is where you enable staff access, define which registration statuses are eligible at the door, build the check-in workflow attendees move through, set up VIP SMS alerts, brand the kiosk, control what the QR code on each badge encodes, and decide which Certain questions sync back to your registration record.
Work through the tabs left to right the first time you set up an event. For most events you'll confirm a few toggles and move on — Greet's defaults are sensible.
Each tab shows a colored status dot: green means configured, red means it still needs attention.
Navigate to Settings
- From the Dashboard & Events list, click the event you want to configure to land on its Overview page.
-
In the left sidebar, click Settings. The Settings page opens with a row of tabs across the top.
Access
The Access tab controls who can operate the check-in station and what happens when an attendee arrives without a registration.
- Toggle Staff Access on. This lets your on-site team sign in using a short passcode instead of a full Certain login.
- Copy the Staff Login URL or scan the QR code onto each device you'll use at the door. Treat the URL + passcode like a shared password.
- Under Change Passcode, enter the passcode your team will use on event day.
- Set an Access Window Start and Access Window End to limit when the passcode works — useful for automatically expiring access the day after your event.
- Toggle Allow Walk-ins on if attendees can register at the door, then build the Walk-in Registration Form:
- Under Profile Fields, toggle First Name, Last Name, Email, Company, and Title on or off, and mark which are required.
- Under Custom Questions, add any event-specific questions already configured in Certain.
-
Click Save Walk-in Form Configuration when done.
- Toggle Allow Kiosk Mode on to let staff launch a self-service kiosk for this event.
- Toggle Group Check-in on if staff need to check in multiple attendees from the same party at once. When enabled, choose a disclaimer signing mode:
- Primary signs for group — the group leader acknowledges on behalf of everyone. Best for low-risk events where queue speed matters.
-
Each member signs individually — every person signs separately. Best for events with liability-sensitive disclaimers.
- Toggle Kiosk Walk-in Registration on if you want unregistered attendees to sign themselves up at an unattended kiosk. When enabled, configure:
- Attendee Types — define the options the kiosk offers. Walk-in is pre-loaded; add others (e.g., Press, VIP, Day Pass) using the Add attendee type field.
-
Default Attendee Type — select the type assigned when no selection is made.
- Click Save Settings at the bottom of the Access tab.
Attendee Statuses
The Attendee Statuses tab defines which registration statuses are permitted at the door and what status Greet writes back to Certain when someone checks in.
- Review the status list. Each row shows the status name and a live count of how many attendees hold it. Toggle on every status you want to allow at check-in. Use Select All to enable everything at once, then turn off any exclusions.
- Click Save Statuses.
- Scroll down to Real-time Sync Status Overrides. This controls the status value Greet writes back to Certain when an attendee checks in, and the Revert Status value applied if a check-in is rolled back. Click Save Overrides when done.
Check-in Workflow
The Check-in Workflow tab defines the sequence of screens an attendee moves through during check-in. Steps are ordered and can be toggled on or off without deleting them.
-
To add a step, click Add Workflow Step and choose from five types:
Step Type What it does Custom Questions Ask up to 3 questions you author in Greet Synced Questions Pull in profile or registration questions from Certain Disclaimer Show a waiver, code of conduct, or terms screen Badge Review Let attendees confirm their details before printing Badge Print Send the badge to the configured printer Click Add Step to confirm.
- To configure a Custom Questions step, click it to expand the card:
- Click Add Question and fill in the question text.
- Select an Answer type: Text Input, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, or Star Rating.
- Toggle Required on if the attendee can't skip it.
-
Click Save Question. You can add up to 3 questions per Custom Questions step.
-
Manage steps using the controls on each row:
- Reorder: drag the handle to change the sequence.
- Enabled toggle: flip a step off to skip it without deleting it — handy for testing or temporarily pausing a question.
- Delete icon: permanently remove the step.
Tip: toggle a step off first to test the workflow without it. If everything looks right, then delete it.
Notifications
The Notifications tab sets up SMS alerts that fire the moment a matching attendee checks in — useful for VIP arrivals, speaker readiness, or sales hand-offs.
- Click Add Notification Rule. In the modal, fill in:
- Rule Name: a label for this rule.
-
Filter Criteria: click the dropdown (defaults to Name) and choose Attendee Type, Company Name, or Attendee Name to define who triggers the alert. Enter the matching value.
- Under SMS Recipients, add who receives the text:
- One at a time: enter an optional Name and phone number, then click +.
-
In bulk: click Import CSV.
- Under Message Options, toggle which attendee details to include in the SMS body. Optionally update the Custom Message Prefix (default is "Check-in alert:").
- Click Create Rule. The rule appears in the Notifications list.
Kiosk Branding
Kiosk Branding controls the visual look of the self-service check-in station for this event. By default, Greet inherits account-level branding; use this tab to override it.
- Toggle Override account-level branding on to unlock the event-specific fields.
- Upload a Logo (recommended 200×60 px, max 5 MB). Use Replace to swap it or Remove to clear it.
- Upload a Banner (the wide image shown on the kiosk welcome screen; recommended 800×200 px, max 5 MB).
- Select a Kiosk Theme, then click Save Branding.
QR Code
The QR Code tab lets you override what data the QR code on each badge encodes — useful when your event uses external badge scanners that expect a specific format.
- Toggle Override badge template's QR code on.
-
Select an Embed Type from the dropdown:
Embed Type What it encodes Registration Code The attendee's Certain registration code External Profile ID An ID from a connected system Simple (with separator) Multiple fields joined by a separator character JSON Format A structured JSON payload Custom Your own template using merge tokens - Click Save QR Settings.
Synced Questions
Synced Questions controls how Certain profile and registration questions behave in Greet — whether they show on the badge, appear to staff, can be edited, and whether edits write back to Certain.
- The tab has two sub-sections:
- Profile Questions: account-wide questions from Certain, tagged for Checkmate or Greet.
- Registration Questions: questions from this event's registration form.
-
For each question, set the four toggles. Changes save automatically as you toggle.
Toggle What it controls Badge Print the answer on the badge Staff Show the answer to staff at check-in Read-only Show the answer but prevent edits Sync back Write edits back to the attendee's Certain record
Danger Zone
The Danger Zone tab holds destructive actions: resetting check-in data, wiping cached attendee lists, and deleting the event from Greet. These actions cannot be undone. Only use this tab when you know exactly what will happen, and confirm with your Certain admin first.
Once you've configured Settings for one event, most teams clone it in Certain so the next event inherits the same setup. You'll only need to revisit Settings to update the things that change between events — branding assets, notification recipients, and attendee statuses.
