Event Setup · Attendee Types
You can create all of an event's attendee types at once by uploading a CSV file, instead of adding them one at a time. The import sets up names, codes, and registration settings. It doesn't set up fees, so plan to add those by hand once the import finishes.
Location: Plan › Event Setup › Attendee Types
⚠ Fees are not imported
The import file has no fee columns. Every attendee type you import comes in with no registration fees and no cancellation fees.
Before you open registration, go to each imported attendee type and add its fees by hand. See Add fees manually after the import. If you skip this step, registrants in paid attendee types won't be charged.
Prepare your import file
Build a .CSV file with one row per attendee type. The first row must hold the column names below, in this order. Only Name is required; leave any other cell blank if you don't need it.
| Column | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Required | The attendee type name shown on confirmations, badges, and reports (for example, Member or Exhibitor). Up to 255 characters. |
| Code | Required | A short abbreviation of the name (for example, MEM). It appears on reports, so pick something readable. Defaults to the Name if blank. |
| Sort Order | Optional | A number that sets the display order on the registration form. Type 1 shows before type 2. |
| Display for Reg Form | Optional | The label registrants see in the Attendee Type section of the form. Defaults to the Name if blank. |
| Passcode | Optional | A code that auto-assigns registrants to this type. Your form must start with the Entry page for passcodes to work. |
| Capacity | Optional | The maximum registrations for this type. Leave blank or enter 0 for unlimited. |
| Default Status | Optional | The registration status a new registration starts in, such as New or Invited. Must match a status already in the event. |
| Tags | Optional | Tags your administrator has already set up for the Attendee Types object. Leave blank if your account doesn't use them. |
| Attendee Type Group | Optional | A label that groups similar types on reports (for example, Speakers or Partners). |
Save the file as .CSV. If your data includes international or special characters, check the file's encoding before you upload it.

Import the file
- Open your event and go to Plan > Event Setup > Attendee Types.
- If the event already has attendee types, click Export first and save a copy. You'll have a backup if the import needs to be undone.
- Click Import to open the import wizard.
- Click Choose File and select your .CSV file, or drag it into the upload box. Click Next.
- Map each column in your file to a Certain field. Columns named exactly as in the sample usually map on their own. Set any column you don't want to bring in to Don't upload.
- Click Complete Import.
- Return to Plan > Event Setup > Attendee Types and confirm every row from your file appears with the right name, code, and sort order.
Add fees manually after the import
Do this for every imported attendee type that charges a fee. Each type can hold up to five date-based registration fees (for example, Early Bird, Regular, and On-site) and up to five cancellation fees.
- Go to Plan > Event Setup > Attendee Types and click the attendee type to open it.
- Scroll to Registration Fees and set Fee Type to Fixed Fee/Discount.
- Fill in the fee details:
- Expiration Date and Time: when this fee stops applying. Times are in U.S. Pacific time.
- Fee Code: a unique abbreviation used on summary reports.
- Display for Reg Form: the label registrants see (optional).
- Amount: what the registrant is charged.
- Tax Rules and Discount Rules: set these if your event uses taxes or percentage discounts.
- Repeat step 3 for each additional fee tier.
- Add Cancellation Fees the same way if you keep part of the payment when someone cancels. Cancellation fees are always positive amounts.
- Click Save, then move to the next attendee type.
A fee only expires when another fee is set to take its place. If you want a type to become free after a date, add a second fee of $0.00 for the period after the first one expires.
Tips and troubleshooting
A row didn't import
Check that its Name cell isn't empty and that the Default Status matches a status that exists in the event.
Using event waitlisting?
Leave Capacity blank. Attendee type capacity and event waitlisting can't be used together.
Passcode isn't working
The registration form has to begin with the Entry page.
Need to change a fee later?
Editing an existing fee amount doesn't update registrations already charged. Add a new fee, expire the old one, then adjust existing registrations directly.
Can't delete an imported type?
Remove it from any promo code or registration group first.
