What logic rules can't do
- Inline display uses one condition. To show a question based on two answers, put it on the next page and use page-level display logic instead. See Using Inline vs. Display Logic
- A field can't be read-only by condition. If some people must not edit a field, use a separate form for them.
- Guest names typed into questions aren't registrations. To count guests, use additional or inline additional registrations so each guest gets a profile.
Logic runs when its page is submitted
A rule fires when the page it's on is submitted, not when the registration is complete. A "send email" or "set status" rule on an early page can run for people who never finish. Put those rules on a later page.
A page shows up blank
When a display condition or logic rule hides every section on a page for some registrants, they see an empty page. See How to Remove a Blank Page Generated by Logic
A logic rule won't save
Check these:
-
Every action has something to act on. If you see "Please select or enter an action item for the action to work upon," the action is missing its item. For example, a Send Email to Registrant action needs a message selected.
- The question section the rule uses has at least one question, not only a header.
- Every condition is filled in. A blank condition can also cause errors when you copy the event. Set it to Always apply or finish it.
How a logic rule fits together, start to finish
A logic rule looks at what a registrant has entered so far and then does something, like showing a question, setting a status or sending an email. It needs three things in place: the questions, the form, and a logic section in the right spot on the form.
- Create the questions for the event. Go to Plan > Event Setup > Questions. Questions live at the event level, so any form in the event can use them.
- Put the questions on the form. Open the form and go to Questions. Add a question section and choose the questions to show in it. A rule can only check answers to questions the registrant has already seen.
- Create the logic rule. On the form, go to Logic and click Add New. Fill in the fields described below.
- Place the logic section in the form's page order. On the form's Setup page, under Page Layout, move the logic section (such as Logic 1) into the Online Form Sequence. The rules run when the page holding that section is submitted, so put it after the questions it checks.
- Save and test. Register a test attendee who meets the conditions, and one who doesn't.
What each field on a logic rule does
- Name: something that says what the rule does, so it's easy to find later.
- Section: which logic section the rule belongs to, such as Logic 1. You can rename the sections under Labels for Form Sequence on the same page.
- Processing Order: the order the rules in that section run.
- Conditions: Always apply, or Apply ONLY if these conditions are met to check an answer, attendee type or other field.
- Actions: what the rule does, such as Display Questions, Assign Reg Status, Assign Attendee Type, Send Email to Registrant or Return Error Message. Most actions then need an item picked, like the status, question or email template.
For every action and setting, see Logic Rules (Attendee Form)
Next step: Open the rule and check the email template, the section and every condition.
