If a promo code doesn't take the discount, check these in order.
1. Who the code is for
- Go to Plan > Promo Codes. The Promo Code List shows each code with its Total Capacity, how many times it's been Used, and how many uses are Remaining.
- Click the edit icon next to the code. The Promo Code Wizard opens on the Overview step.
- Check Attendee Types. The code only works for the attendee types listed (or for everyone if All Attendees is selected). Make sure your test registrant has one of them.
2. Dates and limits
- Limits: Code Capacity on the Overview step is how many times the code can be used. If Remaining in the list is 0, the code is used up. A code that worked once may have hit its limit.
-
Dates: click Next to the Availability step. Starts and Ends set when the code works, for example from a specified date and time until the event ends. Make sure today falls between them.
Just checking? Close the wizard: Clicking Update Promo on the last step saves any changes. If you're only checking the settings, close the wizard with the X instead.
3. Where the section sits on the form
The Promo Codes section has to be on the form, after the Attendee Type section and before Verify and Payment.
- Edit the form, click Setup, and scroll to Page Layout.
- Check that Promo Codes is in the Online Form Sequence list on the right, in the right place. If it's only in Available Sections on the left, the promo code box never appears on the form.
- In this example, Promo Codes is still in Available Sections, so registrants never get a place to enter a code. Select it, click the right arrow, move it below Attendee Type and above Verify, and click Save.

4. Logic that assigns the code
If a logic rule assigns the promo code, check that the rule's condition matches your test registrant and that a Logic section is in the form's Online Form Sequence.
5. Time zone
Promo code start and end dates and times use your event's time zone, not your computer's.
6. Promo codes are turned on
Promo codes need the Registration Groups as Promo Codes option turned on for the event. Only an Administrator in your organization can turn it on, because event builders may not have access to the Options page. If you can't see the option, ask your Administrator.
To turn it on, the Administrator goes to Plan > Configure > Options, checks Registration Groups as Promo Codes under Event Module, and clicks Save. Promo codes and groups can't both be on in the same event.
Testing tip: Test with a new registration each time. A registration that already used a code can't show you whether it works for someone new.
Next step: Re-test with a fresh registration that matches the code's attendee type.
