Four Ways to Start a Form, and What Happens to Your Fields When You Apply One
What this article covers: the four ways to start a registration form in Express, how to save your own design so your team can reuse it later, and the one setting you need to check before you apply any template, since it decides whether the fields you already have survive.
- Every registration form starts somewhere, and Express gives you four starting points instead of one. You can pick a System Template, one of ours, built for a specific kind of event. You can describe your event in a sentence and let AI Spark write the form for you. You can Clone the form off an event you ran last year. Or you can reuse something your own team already saved. Whichever one you start from, every field stays fully editable afterward.
- Open the Templates button to see all four at once. On the Form tab, it sits at the top left of the screen, so you're never digging through separate menus to find AI Spark, Clone, or a saved design; one click surfaces everything.
- Inside the panel, AI Spark sits at the top: describe your event in a sentence, and it drafts a form on the spot. Below it, three tabs organize everything else. Starter holds Certain's four ready-made templates. Saved holds designs your own team has kept. Clone pulls the form straight off any event you've already run, so you're rarely building from a blank page.
- Before you reach for any of that, save your own design. Look at the top right of the Form tab for Save My Design. If you've already built a form you like, its fields, its confirmation email, or both, this turns it into a template the rest of your team can reuse. Give it a name people will recognize later, add tags or a description if you want it to turn up in search, and choose whether any automations attached to the form should travel with it. Once it's saved, it appears under the Saved tab for your next event.

Before anything gets applied, Express shows you a full preview: every field with its required flags, the confirmation email with its merge fields filled in, and any actions attached to the template. Read it end to end, because one setting at the bottom decides what happens to the form you already have.
Setting What it does to your current form Merge Adds the template's fields to what's already on your form. Your existing fields are left alone. Replace Overwrites your current fields and your current confirmation email entirely. Not merged, not appended, replaced. Pick Replace on a form you meant to keep, and that work is gone, so it's worth a second look before you click apply.
- Saved templates aren't only for your own designs. Everything your team has saved shows up in one list, newest first, so you can see at a glance what people have been building. Use the search box to filter by name; results still show their field count, so you can tell a three-field template from a thirty-field one before you open it. A saved template behaves exactly like one of Certain's own, same preview, same merge-or-replace choice, so it's worth reading that setting even when the template is a teammate's.
